Bracken rips through redbacks and pines. His favorite part, he says, is when he's on a hike or in the park.
"To be surrounded by such magnificent trees and bushes is quite remarkable," he said. "Especially the briers, the white briers, they're incredible trees."
His favorite place, though, is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs east through the southern end of the state.

Mayor sees benefits in printing merger fees, but wants to see some regulation
The City of Winnipeg is set to pay out $35 million in fees for allowing TransLink to pay out its merger fees this year.
TransLink said Friday it will release the fee numbers as a public process.
The fee list comes after TransLink officials began the public process and are releasing the fees as part of a public process that includes consultations with interested parties.
"TransLink has stated, on multiple occasions, that the merger process will provide significant benefits to the region, especially in bringing new and better services to people as well as existing residents," said TransLink CEO Russ Girling.
"These fees will be shared with the communities we serve in order to fund the next phase of operating improvements for the region's population ” transportation, water, health and other priorities."
The regional public consultations were expected to continue until Dec. 16.
